THE ACTS/LOS ACTOS:
'Soldado Razo' (The Private) is a tale told by Death acted out under his direction by a mother and father, their 20-year-old son Johnny, Johnny's fiancee and his little brother, as Johnny goes off to fight in the Vietnam War. Like many morality plays, it is often comic which makes the ending to this play a heart-wrenching experience. Starring Johnathan Contreras, Alexander Wright, Irene Taylor, Rogelio Jimenez & Lluvia Almanza.
'Los Vendidos' (The Sellouts) is set in Honest Sancho's Used Mexican Lot and Mexican Curio Shop, a fictional Californian store that apparently sells various "models" (robots) of stereotypical Mexicans and Mexican-Americans that buyers can manipulate by simply snapping their fingers and calling out commands.
'No Saco Nada de la Escuela' (Didn't Take Anything From School) is a play about Chicano students who go to school but they are not that intelligent and lack some sense of knowledge or judgment. However in this production, the expression is an interpretation of the United States school system in a sarcastic way. Valdez illustrates that students from another nationality, color of skin are likely misunderstood, judged and pressured to fit in. This pressure is due to their socials status and their basic education at home which are different from the high class children. Starring Johnathan Cantrell, Hannah McFarling, Lorely Rodriguez, Daymond Roman, Rogelio Jimenez, Jonathan Contreras, Lluvia Almanza & Alexander Wright.
The MEXICAN-AMERICAN EXPERIENCE is produced in special arrangement with the Chamizal National Memorial, the City of El Paso & Eden Enterprises.
